An interview with Jim Beebe, former Scientologist. Excerpt 1 of 6

1967 - Important documentary about the founder of Scientology. A rarecase where Hubbard was interviewed by an outside news crew.

From the 1987 Mt. Fuji Jazz Festival - with James Spaulding, alto sax; Renee Rosnes, piano; Kenny Davis, bass; Ralph Peterson, drums. Check out the first few choruses of Freddie's solo, the rhythm section is all over the place on the form and Freddie vibes the hell out of them! It's hilarious... Poor Renee is the last one back on track, he shoots her a glare that could shatter glass. To quote the man himself, "It's not that easy to play with Freddie Hubbard... ain't that hard either!"

CLASSIC FREDDIE! This is from 1962 with Art Blakey and the Jazz Messengers. The rest of the band is Wayne Shorter, Curtis Fuller, Cedar Walton, and Reggie Workman. Freddie was just 24 here, and plays his ass off!

This is from the 1975 Downbeat Awards... Chick Corea, keys; Stanley Clarke, bass; Lenny White, drums; Airto, percussion... Hot clip!

As any understanding of a religion includes an understanding of its Founder, we present a brief chronology of Scientology Founder, L. Ron Hubbard. That he does not meet prevailing misconceptions of an aloof and contemplative figure is intrinsic to his character. For here was a man who forever maintained that to know life one must live life... http://www.scientology.org

Columbia Business School's Dean Glenn Hubbard sings about wanting Alan Greenspan's job that went instead to New Fed Chair Ben Bernanke. Parody created by Columbia Business School students.

This is from the Mt. Fuji jazz fest - August, 1986... Also with Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter, and Tony Williams. Sorry it cuts off at 10 minutes, but that's all YouTube will allow. Also, this came off a VHS tape with some tracking problems but is still pretty watchable. You can see part 2 at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtLe2sne0fI

R. Glen Hubbard, author of "Healthy, Wealthy, and Wise: Five Steps to a Better Health Care System", gives a talk with Hal Varian at the Google headquarters in Mountain View, CA. This video is part of the Authors@Google series. Credits: Speaker:R. Glenn Hubbard, Speaker:Hal Varian

With Art Blakey and the All Star Jazz Messengers, 1984. (Benny Golson, Curtis Fuller, Walter Davis Jr, Buster Williams) Hub works up to and holds a spectacular high note at the end - it's a must-see.

The Inimitable Ray Wylie Hubbard tells the story of his inspiration behind his classic song "Up Against The Wall Redneck Mother". This was filmed at Jerry Jeff walker's Birthday Bash at the Paramount Theater in Downtown Austin Texas. You can see Jerry Jeff laughing in disbelief as Ray says to him "I made this story a lot better since the last time you heard it"

Photos taken at Yoshi's San Francisco on Apr 3, 2008

This is from the Class 7 Lectures series where Hubbard completely loses his marbles and continues to rant and rave while the students laugh at him.

Freddie achieved his greatest popular success in the 1970s with a series of crossover albums on Atlantic and CTI Records. His early 70s jazz albums for CTI, Red Clay, First Light and Straight Life were particularly well received and First Light won a Grammy Award. He returned to the acoustic, hard bop arena with his 1977 tour with the V.S.O.P. quintet, which teamed him with the members of the 1960s Miles Davis Quintet; Herbie Hancock, Wayne Shorter, Tony Williams, and Ron Carter. In the 80s Hubbard was again leading his own jazz groups, attracting very favorable notices for his playing at concert halls and festivals in the USA, Europe, and Japan, often in the company of Joe Henderson, playing a repertory of hard-bop and modern-jazz pieces. He also collaborated with fellow trumpet legend Woody Shaw for a series of albums for the Blue Note and Timeless labels. An exceptionally talented virtuoso performer, Hubbard's rich full tone is never lost, even when he plays dazzlingly fast passages. As one of the greatest hard bop trumpeters, he strives to create impassioned blues lines without losing the contemporary context within which he plays. He is perhaps one of the greatest technical trumpet players ever to play in the jazz idiom and arguably the most influential.

1982 - The son of Scientology's charlatan founder appears on a morning show to debate a Scientology spokesman, Robert Vaughn Young. Young would leave Scientology a few years later and also become a vocal critic of the group.

From his 1970 lp "Red Clay" here's Freddie Hubbard with "Suite Sioux", used for Deda's "Nothing More"

This is a video of 1986 when David Miscavige announced that L Ron Hubbard had "killed himself". They seem.... pleased. Edit - As it turns out, the coroners report showed that Mr. Hubbard had died of a stroke with Vistaril in his system - a prescription medication, something which scientologists are vehemently against.

LA INTRO DE UNA DE LAS MEJORES PELICULAS DE NO FRIENDS MUSIC 1: David Bowie & Queen - Under Pressure MUSIC 2: Rise Against - Like the Angels

Freddie Hubbard w/ McCoy Tyner, Ron Carter, Elvin Jones performing Hubbard's blues tune 'Birdlike'. This was recorded off a live radio broadcast. This part features as fine a piano solo as you are likely to hear by Tyner and then a blistering solo from Hubbard. Audio only but I hope you agree it is worth a listen. To my knowledge it has not been released in any format.
